Friendly game on July 11

After our last game on June 27, we had a 3 week break before our next game. So we decided to get some practice in. Our first of the two practice sessions was amongst our team members at Reston. After a morning drive around looking for fields to play, we decided to play on a baseball field in Barron Cameron Park, Reston, VA. We played a 20-20 game with Sirni, Sher, Deepak (C), Vijay C, Srujeet, Tipu (new player) & Sudheer on Chivas Regal team Vs Lali (C), Ananth, Suresh, Saurabh, Ajay, and Vikrant on the Chargers team. Chivas Regal batted first and scoring 117 in their 20 overs with a great last wicket partnership between Deepak and Vijay that took them out of trouble from being at 79/6. Chargers’ bowling was consistent with Vikrant and Ajay picking up two wickets each. Sudheer was injured by an in swinging yorker from Saurabh and had to sit out their bowling innings. Chargers started their innings steadily with Suresh and Ananth. Suresh was in big hitting form sending the ball outside the fence and into the dense areas of the park at willJ. After accounting for one lost ball and one hit on Vijay’s car he decided to give others a chance and sat out. The only success the Regals’ had were in the form of run outs with Ananth and Ajay both being run out at the score at 51/2 in 10 overs. Vikrant and Saurabh (finally playing with his new bat!!!) then built a good partnership scoring the needed runs quickly. Regals’ introduced a know bowler with unknown bowling style – Srini. He bowled slow left arm spin and showed his ambidextrous skills. With 16 needed of the last over it was a showdown between the two leaders Deepak & Lali. In the end after a brave effort in the last over scoring 11, Chargers fell short by 4 runs. It was a close game and a lot of fun.
